Accessibility Improvements for Your Rewards Program

Recently, we've been making some updates to our reward program pages to provide better compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

“Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 covers a wide range of recommendations for making Web content more accessible. Following these guidelines will make content accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities, including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity and combinations of these. Following these guidelines will also often make your Web content more usable to users in general.”

One of the issues that we addressed is the default color scheme of rewards programs. The specific requirement when setting foreground text color and background color (or images), is that the contrast ratio needs to be at least 4.5:1 for text under 18 point, and 3:1 for larger text.

We've changed our default branding colors to meet these standards.  Businesses launching a new reward program using Perkville will default to being in compliance with the WCAG minimum requirements for text color contrast ratio.  Businesses that already have a rewards program on Perkville will not change.

As a reminder, you can choose your primary and secondary reward program colors on the Settings > Branding page.  There are many tools and websites that can help in choosing color combinations that meet the requirements. We recommend that you check your rewards program using one of the following to see if it’s compliant.

We also audited the user facing pages to check that they’re readable by assistive devices and can be used with a keyboard.
